A mango shaped space
By: Wendy Mass
summary
A Mango-shaped Space is about a girl named Mia. Mia sees colors in her head when she hears sounds, or sees letters and numbers. This condition is called Synthesia. She doesn't tell anyone about this condition until a teenager. Mia's best friend, Jenna, gets mad at Mia for not telling her about synthesia, and their friendship becomes shaky. While that is going on, Mia had to take on the challenge of ignoring annoying people, sneaking around her parents, and figuring out boys. Then something happens that makes Mia cry for days.

The main character in A Mango-Shaped Space is a girl named Mia. Mia is very artistic. She likes to paint pictures. Her cat, Mango, is very special to her. Sometimes she wishes that people would leave her alone and stop talking about her synthesia.
Thoughts
I think Billy, the girl Mia sees at the store, will eventually need her help.
When Roger comes up to Mia to talk to her a lot, I think it means he likes her 😍😍
Why didn't Mia's grandparents tell her that she has synthesia if they knew she had it?
If Mia would have told Jenna about her Synthesia earlier in life, would Jenna still get mad?
If Mia would have given a Mango his medicine, would he still have died?
connections
Text to self- when Mia's cat, Mango, started licking the bathtub water, I thought of my cat, Murphy, who does the same thing.
Text to text- when Jenna got mad at Mia, it reminded me of other books I've read where friends get mad at each other.
Text to world- Mia's synthesia made me think of all the health issues in the world.

cause/effect
Because Mia left her painting out in the rain, it got smeared and ruined.
Because Mia forgot to give Mango his medicine, he got very sick.

More about the book
A Mango-shaped space is in first person. I know that because it uses words like I, and My. "I like the poster because it is in black and white to everyone else, but inside my head, it's in color."
This book is fiction, because it didnt really happen. Specifically, it's realistic fiction, because it's possible for this story to happen in real life.
The author's purpose in this book is to entertain.
